The panel has given the IRS until April 23 to hand over six years' worth of Trump's personal and business filings. Trump has broken with decades of presidential precedent by not voluntarily releasing his returns to the public.

In a recent interview with the Post, Democratic New York Representative Kathleen Rice, who serves as chairwoman of the House Homeland Security subcommittee on border security said Miller needs to come before her panel to "make his case for these bad policies to the American people instead of being this shadow puppeteer".

Several immigration proposals, including some backed by the White House, failed to receive the necessary number of votes to pass Congress when Republicans controlled both chambers of Congress.

Democrats didn't expect the department to comply, but they haven't sketched out their next steps.

"We'll have to see what happens on that front", she said. "Given the seriousness of these issues, which bear no connection to actual tax administration, we have begun consultation with the Department of Justice to ensure that our response is fully consistent with the law and the Constitution", Mnuchin writes. When it did not honor, neal's first letter, delivered didn't lay out any implications for the IRS, and a spokesman said a course would be another, more persistent, letter. "I'll let you know fast".
