With Luke Walton Out, Here’s Frontrunner For Lakers Head Coaching Job

The Lakers wished their former coach well when announcing his departure. With a 35-47 record this season, Walton finished with a cumulative 98-148 coaching wins-losses record, while boasting a winning percentage of just 39.8%. Walton was an assistant at Golden State for two seasons before taking the helm in Los Angeles.

"This franchise and the city will always be special to me and my family", said 39-year-old Walton, who won the National Basketball Association twice as a Lakers player.

They're sitting at home on the first day of the 2019 NBA Playoffs, and no longer have a president or head coach after Magic Johnson abruptly stepped down in freaky fashion and the team subsequently fired Luke Walton.

The Luke Walton era in Los Angeles is over. The Lakers clearly need a major overhaul, but the organization is now without a president following Johnson's exit - and even if the Lakers meet expectations next season, it's likely LeBron would get credit for the team's success over Walton. "They're losing a guy who knows the game as well as anybody I've ever met", Kerr said Friday in Oakland. I said Walton wouldn't be unemployed long after leaving the Lakers, and it took less than 48 hours for him to get a new job.

Walton's job was the subject of much speculation for several months now, and it will be one of the hottest jobs on the market now. Collectively, Lakers players missed more than 210 games due to injuries and the team used more than 25 different starting lineups this season.

"He's been great for us", Fox said during the All-Star Break.

On Thursday, as reported by ESPN's Adrain Wojnarowski, Divac fired head coach Dave Joerger, as well as assistant general manager Brandon Williams and Chris Clark, their director of media relations. "They did everything right, I'll say that". We have seen it play out too many times in James' career to think otherwise at this point.
