Dirk Nowitzki Gets Emotional As He Announces Retirement From The NBA

In a fluke of scheduling, Dirk Nowitzki spent Tuesday night in Dallas, being celebrated by the fans he had inspired and lifted up for 21 seasons.

In an address to fans at Dallas's American Airlines Center, the 40-year-old forward said, "As you guys might expect, this is my last home game".

Marks isn't alone; after Nowitzki announced his retirement at the end of Tuesday's game in Dallas, the entire crowd chanted repeatedly and loudly, "Thank you Dirk!". After the Spurs battled back from a 3-1 series deficit and a 20-point lead in Game 7, Manu Ginobili fouled Nowitzki on a layup with 21.6 seconds remaining.

Nowitzki will retire after the Mavericks' game in San Antonio on Wednesday, while Wade will finish his playing career in Brooklyn on the same night.

Nowitzki will play in his final game Wednesday night in San Antonio against the Spurs. M-V-P! Nowitzki won the league's regular-season MVP award in 2007 and earned NBA Finals MVP in 2011, when he delivered Dallas its lone championship.

"Wow. I'm a little overwhelmed, as you would think".

"Dirk is going to have a lot of people there".

Their impact on the game will be felt for generations to come.

That bucket was a ideal note to close on as Nowitzki checked out one last time to a standing ovation from an appreciative San Antonio crowd.

Nowitzki has played in 49 games and missed significant time while recovering from an ankle injury, which he had surgery on in 2018. Bryant retired three years ago.

With his 51-point performance, Crawford became the oldest player (39 years, 20 days) in National Basketball Association history to drop 50 in a single outing, passing Michael Jordan's 45-point total he accomplished in 2001 as a member of the Washington Wizards.
