Samsung launches A80 with 'new infinity display'

Here are our first impressions of the Galaxy A80.

Samsung has already launched a number of phones under the Galaxy A series with prices ranging from Rs 8,490 for the A10 to Rs 19,990 for the A50.

The Samsung Galaxy A80 is the latest entry in the A-series of smartphones, the series positioned just below the S-line.

As is usual with Samsung phones there's Auto HDR, a Scene Optimizer that detects scenes and attempts to bring out certain elements for a better photo, a Pro mode, Live Focus (Samsung's term for portrait mode) mode and even Hyperlapse.

The advantages here, beyond the lack of a notch of hole-punch front-facing camera, is that the A80 gets to leverage the very same cameras it uses for the back as it does for selfies. There is no face unlock support in the Galaxy A80. The phone gets a 3D glass back design with metal frames. It also has an "On-screen fingerprint" scanner which is assumed to be an optical scanner.

The phone's construction quality is great, and Samsung says that it has thoroughly tested both sliding and rotating mechanisms and they won't create issues for the consumers during the smartphone's lifetime. Share your views with us in the comments section below.

The 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display is undoubtedly one of the highlights of this relatively affordable tablet's list of features, sporting the same 2560 x 1600 resolution as the "premium" Galaxy Tab S4, which typically costs $530 and up. The Galaxy A80 is the first Samsung phone to feature a slider design, and it's also the first phone to have a rotating camera in a slider design. As per the post, the A90's rumoured pop-up camera will come in a "rotary structure design". The small cutout in the screen houses a 25MP f/2.0 selfie camera. This whole exercise is quite seamless and doesn't take long. This main camera module is actually a triple camera array consisting of a 48MP f/2.0 wide camera, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera and a 3D Depth camera. Samsung also did not reveal the official price of the Galaxy A80 at launch A80 but sources within Samsung have suggested that the price of the device will likely be between Rs 45,000 and Rs 50,000.

The device might be powered by the new Snapdragon 7150 SoC along with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB expandable storage. There is no 3.5mm audio jack in the smartphone, which will certainly irk some prospective buyers. The device is available in three color options: Gold, White and Black.
