Pelosi Comes Out against Impeachment: ‘He’s Just Not Worth It’

While Pelosi revoked Pence's office privileges, the aide said she is providing new office space for the White House legislative affairs team that they did not previously enjoy under the GOP majority.

The 17-term California Democrat recalled the divisiveness of President Bill Clinton's impeachment, which she said was "horrible for the country", and said she would not be willing to go through that again without "overwhelming and bipartisan" justification.

He had asked about the topic that is on everyone's mind as Washington awaits the soon-expected results of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

WASHINGTON-Far from signaling the end of House Democrats' impeachment effort against President Donald Trump, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's widely reported opposition may actually advance the campaign, according to Republican and Democratic strategists.

The remarks quickly sparked criticism of Pelosi from liberals on social media.

The New York Post editorial board writes that Pelosi's admission stating she would need "something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan", is proof that "there isn't" anything. About 48% of adults in the USA said Trump should be impeached, while 40% opposed it, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll published March 8. Still, her comments will nearly certainly infuriate the far-left wing of the party, which has been clamoring to begin impeachment proceedings over controversies ensnaring the Trump administration. Instead, she has simply conceded that Democrats do not presently have enough political capital to instigate impeachment proceedings.

"I would like to see this president and the style of politics that he represents sent off through the electoral process, decisively defeated at the ballot box", South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg said Sunday night at a CNN presidential town hall.

Pelosi's comments come one week after the House Judiciary Committee, the panel with jurisdiction over impeachment proceedings, issued document requests to more than 80 people affiliated with Trump's administration, campaign and businesses.

Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) also wouldn't rebuke Pelosi when he vowed to reintroduce new articles of impeachment.

Several panels in the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives, including one headed by House judiciary chairman Jerrold Nadler, have just opened investigations into nearly every aspect of Mr Trump's life.

Nancy Pelosi: what does Putin have on Trump?

While Pelosi said she wasn't in favour of impeaching Trump, she maintained that he wasn't fit for the presidency. Trump is enjoying economic good fortune (#ThanksObama) although it is fair to note that nearly all of the economic policies enacted by Trump and his party have hurt more Americans than they've helped. By declaring Trump essentially unimpeachable, the House speaker gives future presidents the impunity to act as these choose, virtually without effect. She reminded the Post what she tells reporters weekly if not daily: "Public sentiment is everything".

"If he's not, and he's actually not interested in policy, then she'll unleash the political Kraken on him, and he will suffer daily from the congressional hearing rooms to the polling booths over the next 20 months", Williams said.
