The snow in New York will start early Tuesday morning and move east throughout the day, according to New York State officials. The Weather Service predicts a total snow and sleet accumulation of 6 to 12 inches over the whole region, "with localized amounts up to 15 inches over northern NY and southeast upslope sections of the Green Mountains in Vermont". "The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes", the NWS said.

The weather was expected as early as the late afternoon in some areas Monday and was expected to continue through the night making both the Monday evening commute and the Tuesday morning commute hard.

The winter storm is associated with a Colorado low that will cross southern Ontario Tuesday and Wednesday.

A winter storm in the Midwest and near the Great Lakes Monday was expected to bring wintry weather to the Northeast Tuesday but first, it was bringing snow and ice to the middle of the country.
