House Intelligence Committee Votes to Send Russia Transcripts to Mueller

"He's just a political hack trying who's trying to build a name for himself".

"It's called presidential harassment, and it's unfortunate", Trump claimed. The committee closed the probe in March 2018, back when Republicans controlled the House of Representatives and the committee, declaring it had found "no evidence of collusion, coordination or conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Russians". "And it really does hurt our country".

The committee's decision to release the remaining transcripts to the special counsel will allow Mueller to comb them for inconsistencies, or answers that may not match up with evidence the special counsel has amassed through documents and interviews with the same people. And I think that's fine because that's what they do.

"The special counsel's office, the Justice Department and its elements will now have access to those transcripts for any goal which will facilitate justice", Schiff told reporters after the committee's vote, adding that the transcripts will be sent to Mueller's investigators immediately. Cohen pleaded guilty in November to lying to the House and Senate intelligence committees about his role in a Trump business proposal in Moscow.

The panel has previously released select transcripts to the Special Counsel, including that of Trump's longtime friend Roger Stone and Trump's former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen.

They criticized the Office of the Director of National Intelligence declassification review of documents already approved for release in the last Congress as "unacceptable", and added that "we hope the Democrats will now join us in further increasing transparency by voting to immediately publish all the unclassified transcripts that we previously sent to the executive branch".

In the previous Congress, Schiff tried to send the unredacted transcripts to Mueller, but was stifled by Republicans, who said that Mueller's office had not requested them, CNN noted.

Schiff told The Washington Post past year that there's a "whole set of potential financial conflicts of interests and emoluments problems that Congress will need to get to the bottom of" when it comes to the president's relationship with the Middle Eastern nation. Last month, the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform scheduled a public hearing with Cohen for February 7, but he Cohen cancelled, citing threats Trump had made to his family.

Schiff also laid out five "interconnected lines of inquiry" that Democrats feel ranking member Devin Nunes of California did not adequately pursue when he was chairman last Congress.

Schiff also said the committee plans to release all transcripts of testimony given to the committee.

"Additionally, we call on our Democratic colleagues to grant our request to subpoena numerous witnesses whose testimony the Democrats had previously sought in connection with the committee's Russian Federation investigation", the GOPs added.
