Select it, the game's page will tell you it's free in place of the usual purchase button, then click on that to download Apex Legends to your Xbox One. Given that Apex Legends is an online battle royale, this is likely to be expected.

That last bit comes as a surprise to everyone who caught wind of Apex Legends over the weekend and just figured Respawn also had an eventual sequel up its sleeve alongside Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It's super cool, but it leads up to the full reveal of everything at noon.

It also doesn't have a single-player mode, unlike the excellent Titanfall 2, and is a free-to-play game clearly aiming at Fortnite's throne.

Respawn's spin-off is called "Apex Legends" and is set to be a multiplayer, battle royale game set in the Titanfall universe for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. This isn't the first time a game's reveal has been ruined, but Respawn CEO Vince Zampella took it in stride and confirmed the game's existence, telling everyone to check the game's Twitch account on Monday. A Kotaku report suggests that the game was "well into development" as of 2017, and was set to launch a year ago, but based on McCoy's comments it seems that work on that Titanfall 3 has essentially morphed into Apex Legends.

In terms of gameplay, each session will have 60 players that can form teams of three, making a total of 20 teams in each game.

For now, we know that it is a new Battle Royale game from Respawn and that there's going to be plenty of streamers promoting it this week.

As the press release reads, Apex Legends showcases several new genre-leading innovations, starting before players even start the match. Just like the first two Titanfall games, Apex Legends will run on a modified version of Valve's Source Engine, ensuring decent performance across platforms.

Each player in their team will have a specific role to balance things out, with no Titans to call on to help leverage a bad situation.
