José Mourinho rejects criticism of his Manchester United tenure

The interim boss has played down the suggestion that he is responsible for coaxing better performances out of the players since last month's departure of Mourinho, adding that he was confident the former United manager would be back in work soon. If I tell you for example that I consider one of the best jobs of my career (was) to finish second with Manchester United in the Premier League, you say 'this guy is insane - he won 25 titles and he's saying finishing second was one of his best achievements in football'.

"With the injuries of [Marouane] Fellaini as well and the squad we have, I'm not sure we're going to see any movement".

Meanwhile, Mourinho made his first appearance on beIN Sports on Thursday.

Jose Mourinho has said finishing second in the Premier League with Manchester United was one of the best achievements of his career.

"And sometimes we, on this side of the cameras, we analyse things with a different perspective".

Mourinho stood loyally by the 25-year-old despite a drop in form and productivity during a season that eventually cost the manager his job.

Solskjaer said: "Scott is working hard, he's a young boy I still believe in". Molde, Cardiff, I love working with people, trying to improve people and here you want to go to bed at night. "I have been in football a long time, but I will be 56 in a couple of weeks, so I am really too young".

Mourinho was criticised for his style of play as United manager, with fans and players growing frustrated with the negative, cautious approach adopted by his team.

Should United triumph they would be catapulted above Arsenal to within just three points of the top-four - for a few hours at least - while the Norwegian would then need to register a win at home to Burnley at the end of the month to surpass both Guardiola and Sarri to set a new record for the best ever winning start from a new Premier League manager. "It is very easy to be behind an idea of a certain football without results", he continued.

"Because that is what stays forever and what makes you belong to a certain level".
