Teen driver crashes trying 'Bird Box' blindfold challenge

"Bird Box Challenge while driving ... predictable result", Layton Police tweeted with photos of the crash.

The 17-year-old girl pulled a beanie over her eyes and kept driving, according to KATV. She then skidded into the other lanes and hit another auto, a light pole and a sound wall.

Despite warnings from Netflix and just general common sense, it looks like people are still participating in that stupid Bird Box Challenge.

The "Bird Box" challenge, which has gone viral on social media, is inspired by the Netflix movie "Bird Box", starring Sandra Bullock.

Authorities are asking the city attorney to charge the teen girl with misdemeanor reckless driving, the Standard-Examiner reported. "Luckily no injuries", police tweeted Friday. Ironically, the teen very almost committed suicide herself trying to copy the film, and one of the film's characters does commit suicide by driving (un-blindfolded) into oncoming traffic.

What is the "Bird Box Challenge"?

"Bird Box" became Netflix's most-watched film within the first seven days of its release.

Lyman's disbelief echoes Netflix's own warning earlier this month after the "challenge" started going viral, which cautioned fans not to hurt themselves while reenacting the meme. "Would you?" The challenge reached its mature form of meme when YouTuber and professional brain genius Jake Paul posted a video of himself trying it for his young, impressionable audience.

Lyman also warned drivers not to try the "Bird Box Challenge" for themselves: "With driving, the stakes are so high anyway that it's just inexcusable to do something as unsafe as this, not only to yourself but everyone else on the road".
