Spurs blast Raptors as Kawhi returns to San Antonio

Spurs fans mercilessly booing Kawhi Leonard in his return to San Antonio on Thursday night wasn't all that surprising.

That's a pretty classy move by both guys and it shows just how much they respect each other. In one of his first tweets after the trade to San Antonio, DeRozan might have had this game in mind. No, not at all. Of course, Thomas is speaking on Leonard being the 2014 NBA Finals MVP in the Miami series.

Unfortunately, Kim Leonard had to watch her son and the Raptors lose to the Spurs, 125-107. "Doesn't matter what we say, you're going to say whatever you want, so that's a waste of our time". "I knew he was a scorer, I knew he was a great teammate and all that sort of thing, high character". Some reports have suggested the Spurs might have misdiagnosed his initial injury, while others have painted Leonard as a star who just wanted to force his way to a bigger market.

"You've got to thrive in moments like that", DeRozan said. It doesn't surprise me at all, but I'm pleased for Kawhi and Danny to see them both doing well in Toronto.

Popovich and Leonard hugged and had a long discussion after the Spurs' win over the Raptors on Thursday. Leonard's Raptors still hold the superior record at 28-12 and are tied atop the Eastern Conference rankings with the emergent Milwaukee Bucks.

"Yeah, it's going to be fun", Leonard said.

While the parties involved may have moved on, many Spurs fans have not.

Leonard went to Toronto along with Danny Green for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a 2019 first-round pick.

Maybe we should have seen this coming.

"It really wasn't [anything]", he said.

Less than halfway through the opening quarter, DeRozan threw down some absolute fury at the rim to give the Spurs a 10-point cushion - one that would turn out to be one of the slimmest San Antonio leads of the night. I'm hoping one thing.

The mood will be much different when DeMar DeRozan returns to Toronto on February 22, of course. "I always expressed that", DeRozan said.

"I think he has something to prove all year, not just there", Green said.
