TEST hopeful Marnus Labuschagne has had his first training session with the Aussies since being called into the extended squad for Thursday's fourth Test against India.

The Indian unit is far from settled and the final combination could well be a crucial factor which would determine whether India can win their first ever series in Australia. "Try being a selector at the moment", Langer told reporters on Monday.

"Most of our batters knocking on the door are averaging in the 30s (in the Sheffield Shield)".

After an excellent year of cricket, the Indian National Cricket team will look to continue their blistering form when they start their campaign in 2019.

The top six's collapses of 3-29 and 3-13 in Australia's first innings at the MCG effectively ended their hopes of defeating India in the series.

Langer acknowledged recent results suggest domestic players are not being adequately prepared to make the step up.

"It's something we're talking about obviously, he's having a bit of a lean run of it", Langer said. "He does the hard work and is getting rewards". Pat Cummins is the all-rounder Australia are looking for & is a future Australia Captain.

Cricket writer Ben Horne claimed Burns' push for a Test recall was "arguably the most compelling case of all".

Virat & Co travel to the home of cricket in pursuit of third World Cup trophyAfter a year in which they faced three demanding overseas Test challenges in South Africa, England and Australia, the Indians head in to 2019, where almost everything will revolve around the 50-over World Cup. He's got to somehow recharge his batteries over and over and over again. "It's been great to watch and he's a great guy, so it's good to see him get the rewards".

During the Test in Cape Town, Cameron Bancroft tried to alter the ball with sandpaper with Warner fingered as the instigator and then captain Smith admitting he turned a blind eye.

"I feel like the director of a soap opera", Langer said.

Bancroft, who was banned for nine months, made his return on Sunday evening for the Perch Scorchers in the Big Bash League, but only lasted three balls.

Smith and Warner remain suspended until the end of March.

This was not about making history, he said, more about proving that a team already ranked number one in the world in tests could do the business on the rock hard wickets of Australia as well as the slow, brown pitches of home. "The guys have almost finished their bans and almost done their time, so I think it's time we started focussing on the fact that they're coming back and from that there are some real positives", he said after defeat at the MCG.
