Stranger Things season 3 date announced, teaser unveiled

The streaming giant used the New Year's holiday to tweet an image showing the show's cast with fireworks and the words "July 4".

The release date for the third series of hit TV show Stranger Things has been revealed.

In addition to the artwork and release date, fans were also treated to a creepy new New Year's Eve-themed mini-trailer.

"One summer can change everything", the screen eventually reads. Mysterious interferences interrupt the broadcast, sending static onto the screen along with odd messages like "when blue and yellow meet in the west".

Netflix chose New Years Day to make the announcement "Stranger Things" fans have been waiting for - when the third season will finally premiere.

The new season will again feature Eleven (Mille Bobbie Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Max (Sadie Sink).

The footage is intermittently interrupted as Clark narrates the Times Square ball slowly dropping and then is flipped upside down by the end - a nod to the show, of course. Stranger Things creator The Duffer Brothers and show's executive producer Shawn Levy stated earlier that there is a good chance that their show will have more than four seasons. I think it's going to be a fantastic season.

We're not sure what Stranger things has in store for us, but what we do know is that it's seven months away, so mark your calendars!
