Congress-ruled Madhya Pradesh may ban The Accidental Prime Minister

Bollywood actor Anupam Kher during the trailer launch of his upcoming movie "The Accidental Prime Minister" opened up about how hard it was for him to portray.

The Department of Public Relations of Madhya Pradesh government tweeted that there is no decision by the government to ban the film, adding that media reports announcing the ban were not factual. The film is based on Sanjaya Baru's 2014 memoir of the same name and details Singh's relationship with the Congress party's Gandhi family. While the movie is highly controversial as it does not show the Congress party leaders in much good light, its trailer started trending on social media as soon as it got released, and has been liked by many.

On the other hand, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore defended BJP for "extending wishes" for the film. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has not made any comment on the film. BJP said it was a "riveting tale of how a family held the country to ransom for 10 long years".

The movie The Acccidental Prime Minister revolves around Dr Manmohan Singh, the economist and politician who served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014 under the United Progressive Alliance. With well-known actor and BJP sympathiser Anupam Kher in the lead role, Congress leaders said the movie was a bid to distract attention from the failures of the Modi government. Congress workers should follow their president Rahul Gandhi who recently spoke about the freedom of speech and expression in a tweet, veteran actor Anupam Kher said on Friday. "We demand a full screening of the film before its official release in India and overseas".
