Why Kirk Herbstreit thinks Urban Meyer won't coach again

Ryan Day, who now is Ohio State's offensive coordinator, will take over as the Buckeyes' head coach starting January 2.

I figured that the day Urban Meyer retired would be a happy one for myself as a MI football fan.

"What Urban has brought to Buckeye nation has by far exceeded expectations", Gene Smith said.

Meyer got into the football coaching scene after interning at a high school shortly after college.

Meyer didn't feel Tuesday was the day to dissect his legacy but he briefly touched on it.

Day's opening statements were what you would expect from any head coach taking over a program. Losing top pass rusher Nick Bosa early in the season was a blow, but in past years, Ohio State has been able to move on from injuries without missing a beat. "Not only has he elevated the status and quality of our program, his presence elevated Big Ten football". Meyer will start feeling better, and then he'll get bored, fast; he's not the kind of retired coach fans will get accustomed to seeing out for a grocery run or at the local auto wash. CFT had caught wind of speculation that it wouldn't be surprising at all if Meyer were not the Buckeyes' head coach next season, whispers that grew a little louder given the embarrassing loss in West Lafayette this and what some have described as Meyer's "anguished... emotional... erratic" sideline demeanor. He never had a down year and that's maybe why I hate so much that he's leaving.

Ohio State followed that with five straight wins, including a rout of archrival MI that gave the Buckeyes another division title and then pulled away for an easy win over Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship.

"We won a lot of games and represented this great university and great state the right way".

After a brief moment of confusion, Day deferred to Meyer. "But I'm prepared and ready for the task".

"I've seen him coach in spring practice and he's one of the more chill coaches", Wilson said. He went 3-0 in those games.

"I thought he was very good in the classroom, teaching me the offense and the system, breaking it down and making it very simplistic where I would be able to understand it and translate it to the field", Murphy said.

At a packed news conference, Meyer explained that the headaches became severe last season during Ohio State's game at Penn State and have become a persistent problem this season. But Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller produced three scores, and linebacker Ryan Shazier returned an interception for a touchdown. And no disrespect to the other Bowl games, because they're awesome, but the Rose is the one we've always looked forward to. That said, it's still nowhere near certain, and any announcement is unlikely to come until after the Rose Bowl. Murphy said he recalls the then-coordinator was big on educating players on the game.
