Outrage after first women's Ballon d'Or victor Ada Hegerberg asked to twerk

French DJ Martin Solveig has taken to Twitter to apologise to Norwegian footballer and inaugural victor of the women's Ballon d'Or Ada Hegerberg after asking her to twerk shortly after receiving her award on-stage.

The Norway global, who plays her club football with Lyon, was invited on stage in Paris to accept her Golden Ball from French DJ Martin Solveig.

The crowd, and social media, clearly disapproved of Solveig's sexist question.

Accompanied by a video apologising further to Hegerberg, Solveig wrote on Twitter: "Sincere apologies to the one I may have offended".

She cheerfully said, "I got to dance a bit and I got the Ballon d'Or". I did not want to offend anyone.

He added: "Especially if you consider the sequence in total, when we ended up dancing to Frank Sinatra".

Solveig concluded that his remark "was a joke, probably a bad one" and said he wanted to apologize to anyone he may have offended.

Solveig later posted a picture on Twitter of him and Hegerberg shaking hands. "It was more of a joke of making her dance".

The three-time Women's Champions League victor with French side Lyon was named the world's best female player of 2018 at a gala in Paris.

"Women's football is taking huge strides and questions and comments like this take away from those strides we have taken".

"I didn't feel it was like that at all to be honest and I am sad if people thought about the situation like that", Hegerberg said after the show. I don't think the respect has been there. Hegerberg, speaking of the matter directly after the ceremony, said she did not take it as "sexual harassment" and emphasized there were more important issues to focus on.

Modric was named the best player of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and was a key member of the Real Madrid team that won a third consecutive UEFA Champions League.

She then went to leave the stage but before she could do so was asked by Solveig whether she would like to "twerk".

"I am still trying to realise that I have become part of a group of exceptional players to win the Ballon d'Or throughout history".

Journalists since 1956 have voted to recognize the best men's soccer players in the world but only now has France Football Magazine (the award's organizer) conducted similar balloting in women's soccer. I want to end this speech with a message to all young girls in the world.
