NYPD seek unlucky suitor who lost engagement ring news

In this image taken from surveillance video provided by the New York City Police Department, a man tries to see the engagement ring that he dropped down a utility grate on New York's Times Square.

A man was doing just that at the United States city's popular tourist landmark and dropped the ring he used to propose to his fiancee.

But - after persistent searching - officers found the engagement ring, have cleaned it and are now attempting to track down the couple.

The ring then fell about eight feet down a grate and the incident was caught on nearby security cameras.

They called emergency services, who eventually found it - but only after the couple had left without giving their names or contact information. "Help us find them?"

Now the NYPD wants to locate the couple and return the ring to them. He has short brown hair and a manicured beard.

Unfortunately for the couple, the NYPD does not have the couple's details, therefore it can't reunite them with the ring.

More than 350,000 people visit Times Square in midtown Manhattan every day.
