Apple Expected to Unveil Updated iPad and Mac at New York Event

What gives credibility to this new "icon" showing the 2018 iPad design is that a similar icon was seen before the arrival of the iPhone X last year and the iPhone XS smartphones this year. To tide you over, here's a rundown of everything we expect to see, and what will probably be a no-show.

Now, a new and updated icon has been unearthed in the latest version of the iOS 12 developer beta - and it further reinforces that previous rumor, once again showing a tablet symbol with slim bezels and no Home button, as reported by 9to5Mac. But while that event is believed to center largely around new iPad Pro tablets, it will hardly be the only one. Allegedly, there'll be an updated Apple Pencil and, as with the new iPhones, nearly edge-to-edge screens and slimmer bezels.

Apple's fall event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 30 in Brooklyn, NY.

Apple announced three new iPhones including the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in its September keynote event.

It nearly seems like Apple has forgotten about the iPad Mini, or is happy to let the product die as it pushes the iPad towards being a more powerful computer replacement. While the tablet market is contracting overall, the iPad has been slowly regaining momentum thanks to new software and lower-priced models, but also because competitors like and Samsung Electronics haven't wowed the market lately. As the Cupertino based tech giant solidifies its position as one of the largest tech companies in the world, it has the necessary leeway to focus on different devices in one calendar year.

Signs of new Macs came from a filing sighted by Consomac in the Eurasion Economic Union.

According to a Bloomberg report from August, which was supported by recent predictions from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will also be soon revealing a replacement for the MacBook Air which is the only computer in its lineup that doesn't sport a high-res Retina display. The latter would be a big upgrade over the existing Mac mini, which has languished without an update since 2014.

This could spark the end of the Lightning cable for iPhones, too, if Apple decides to synchronise the charging format over multiple platforms. The event is going down in Brooklyn, and is invite only. AirPower, which Dickson's sources claim uses at least 21 coils to charge multiple devices, also had issues with monitoring device charge levels, and simply squeezing all that hardware and circuitry into the discreet form factor Apple teased a year ago. This, of course, stands in stark contrast to the Apple of the 90s which was forced to downsize and keep things simple. As usual, there'll be a live stream available on the Apple website.

Apple's wireless earbuds, AirPods, have been included in rumors, with the anticipation of an updated feature set that includes Siri integration and a wireless charging case.
