Marvel’s ‘Luke Cage’ cancelled after two seasons on Netflix

For two seasons Mike Colter played a tall, bullet-proof black man donning a hoodie (or sometimes a tailor-made Dapper Dan suit) and walked around his beloved Harlem protecting residents from low-level drug dealers to the criminal elite, which is why viewers were surprised to learn the show would not return for a third season.

Luke Cage season 2 features a cast that includes Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Simone Missick (Misty Knight), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Alfre Woodard (Mariah Dillard), Theo Rossi (Shades), Finn Jones (Iron Fist), Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing), Thomas Q. Jones (Comanche), Gabrielle Dennis (Tilda Johnson), Mustafa Shakir (John McIver/Bushmaster), Reg E. Cathey (James Lucas) and Anabella Sciorra (Rosalie Carbone).

Colter posted a photo with his daughter to Twitter and wrote, "I am forever grateful to Marvel and Netflix for letting me portray such a prolific character, and I thank you unbelievable fans".

"A lot of great memories". "Time to make more".

Fans scratched their heads and raised their eyebrows in disbelief when streaming behemoth Netflix announced the cancelation of Luke Cage. According to an inside source, "the cancellation was due to creative differences and the inability to agree to terms for a third season of the show". While the numbers definitely tell a story of decreasing returns for the Marvel Netflix shows, there is some room for debate when it comes to assessing why those figures pan out the way they do.

Netflix also recently canceled Iron Fist, another Marvel property.

The Hollywood Reporter shared its reasoning for why Luke Cage was canned this past weekend.

Iron Fist didn't fare too much better as the first season managed only 120,000 posts between Instagram and Twitter. A petition to get the show back on the air has surfaced, while fans on Twitter have been voicing their displeasure with the cancellation.

Of course, this means that Season 2 of The Defenders definitely won't be happening. Stay tuned for more celebrity family news!
