"They don't want me or us to win because I am the first president to ever challenge China on trade", Mr Trump said on Wednesday.

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks as he chairs a UN Security Council briefing on counter-proliferation during the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly at U.N. headquarters in NY, U.S., September 26, 2018.

The United States and China are embroiled in a trade war, sparked by Trump's accusations that Beijing has long sought to steal U.S. intellectual property, limit access to its own market and unfairly subsidise state-owned companies.

A Chinese official called the accusations "unwarranted", and insisted it did not and will not interfere "in any country's domestic affairs".

"We don't want them to meddle or interfere in our upcoming election", said Trump, who is attending the UN's annual gathering of world leaders.

The Trump administration implemented another round of tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports on Monday, while Beijing implemented countermeasures on $60 billion worth of USA goods.

US intelligence officials have said they are not now seeing the intensity of Russian intervention registered in 2016 and are also concerned about activity by China, Iran and North Korea. "We don't want to them to meddle or interfere in our upcoming election".

China did not immediately respond to the remarks by Trump, who was chairing the Council meeting. This summer, reports also emerged that Russia's GRU intelligence agency, with an eye on the upcoming USA elections, had attempted to hack accounts related to the re-election campaign of Sen. Recently, Trump also tweeted that the Chinese government's tariffs are meant to "impact and change our election" by "attacking our farmers, ranchers, and industrial workers".

"I like a two-state solution", Trump said in response to a reporter's question about whether his administration's forthcoming peace plan would include such a scenario.

"I would certainly be open to it, I'm willing to meet with anybody", Trump said on Wednesday as he arrived at United Nations headquarters.

He also condemned violence in the ongoing bloody civil war in Syria, saying that the "butchery is enabled by Russian Federation and Iran".

President Donald Trump speaks during the United Nations Security Council briefing on counter-proliferation at the United Nations in NY on the second day of the UN General Assembly, Sept. 26, 2018.

Meanwhile, Beijing has accused Washington of attempting to "blackmail" China by using tariffs.

On Tuesday, Trump had extended "special thanks" to Xi for support of USA efforts to get North Korea to commit to denuclearization.

"So I'm looking at two states and one state", Trump said.

"And we are winning on trade. We will no longer tolerate such abuse".
