How to Get iOS 12

The first and most obvious potential fix for anyone who is having issues updating to iOS 12 is to simply restart the iPhone or iPad.

The feverishly-anticipated iOS 12 mobile operating system is now available to download on nearly all iPhones and iPads right now. The good news here is that every device that can run iOS 11 will be capable of running iOS 12. Once you've backed up to iCloud and iTunes (read the referenced article for why we say "and"), install iOS 12 by going to Settings General Software Update and tapping Download and Install.

Apple has improved AR in this update, and claims users can enjoy an "even more realistic mix of the virtual and real world with support for image detection and tracking, making it possible to detect 3D objects and automatically apply reflections".

However, if you generally fall on the cautious side, or if you depend on your devices to work properly, here's our advice on when you should think about installing these new versions. Shared AR experiences have been created to allow multiple iOS users to use AR apps at the same time, while persistent AR allows people to place virtual objects into the real world that they can later return to, a sort of AR object save feature. Older iPhone users, can check out our guide for instructions here: How To Hard Reboot / Restart Your iPhone, iPad Or iPod touch.

For a complete rundown on the list of features that are included in iOS 12, head over to Apple now. On older iPhones, apps open up to 40% faster than iOS 11. Do share with us your experience after upgrading to iOS 12. Along with some exercise features, such as the ability for it to detect when you start and stop working out, there's also (finally) a Podcasts app.

Remember that the Apple Watch must be on its charger, charged to at least 50 percent, and within range of your iPhone, which itself must be on Wi-Fi.

After a few months in beta, iOS 12 is finally out for supported devices, going back all the way to the iPhone 5s from 2013.

Despite nothing that really wows people, iOS 12 received largely positive reviews. Moving from one version of iOS to another can cause problems so you'll want to monitor the download and installation as they make progress.

Hit Remove Profile, and you'll no longer be getting iOS 12 beta software updates.

Select Download and Install. AR files can now be viewed almost anywhere in iOS, including apps like Messages, Safari, Mail, Files and News. There's also grouped notifications to reduce clutter on your lock screen. You can also customize certain options right from the Notification Center, telling it to deliver those notifications "quietly" (so they still appear, but don't make sound) or turn them off entirely.
