Deputy involved in shooting at Ice Cube concert, authorities say

The shooting at the Del Mar racetrack took place as a concert by the rapper Ice Cube was scheduled to start soon.

The sheriff's department said that Elizarraras went up to the ticket window of the Thoroughbred Club on Sunday at 6:40 p.m. and was told that there were no more tickets left for Ice Cube's concert.

"An argument ensued and nearby deputies responded", she said. The deputies then shot him.

Ice Cube tweeted at his fans, "come see ya homie Cube... but leave the strap at home".

The department says the man was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

San Diego's FOX 5 reported that a San Diego Sheriff's Department deputy had shot a suspect near the racetrack entrance. A person reportedly pulled out a gun and fired it three times into the air.

TVG's Todd Schrupp, who was heard on the television broadcast repeatedly exclaiming "Gunfire at the track!" during the gallop out of the 10th race, later took to Twitter to share details of the event. Passing concert-goers can be heard shouting expletives after the shooting.

As is our special events protocol, substantial law enforcement and private security was on site in anticipation of the event.

We will continue to fully cooperate with the Sherriff's Department in their investigation and will refer all questions concerning the incident to them.

Just before 7.30pm, the Del Mar Racetrack tweeted: 'The situation has been contained.

The shooting, which occurred during the final race of the day, created a chaotic scene at the venue.
