Journalists from The Associated Press were allowed to document the casket's movement after the public viewing concluded.

The Queen of Soul's public viewing continued Wednesday, with fans queuing festively outside, then walking solemnly and single file into the museum.

The singer's gold-plated open coffin was placed on display for hundreds of grief-stricken fans at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.

Franklin died at age 76 of pancreatic cancer on August 16. Franklin's body will be moved to the New Bethel Baptist Church, where her father was once the pastor, for a private visitation on Thursday (30Aug18), ahead of an all-star memorial concert at Chene Park Amphitheatre, featuring her friend Gladys Knight, The Four Tops, and Angie Stone.

Ariana Grande has been added to the list of superstar singers set to perform at Aretha Franklin's funeral Friday, Franklin's publicist has confirmed to CNN.

The God Is A Woman hitmaker joins a line-up of esteemed performers for Franklin's funeral including Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill, Chaka Khan and Jennifer Hudson.

Asked her thoughts about other performers, she had kind words for Adele's talent, but of Swift she said, "OK, great gowns, handsome gowns". Two days before her death, Franklin was honored by Beyonce and Jay Z in Detroit.

"I feel like I've known her all my life because I grew up with her music, my mom; my aunts; my sisters". The interior is finished with champagne velvet with her tittle "Queen of Soul" and name "Aretha Franklin" embroidered in the casket lining with gold metallic thread.

The music, she said, drew her in as it conveyed joy, pain and all things in between.

"I guess she touched so many hearts, you see people crying, you see people just smiling and singing her songs".
