Graham: Trump Called Him After McCain Tribute Speech On Senate Floor

The ceremony will include remarks from Ducey and former U.S. Sen. John McCain is getting so much media attention in the wake of his death on Saturday.

Brewer described McCain's wife, Cindy, as "very composed" as she approached the casket and put her cheek against the flag.

In recent months, Graham, who gave an emotional tribute to McCain on the Senate floor on Wednesday, sought to balance a friendship with the Republican senator from Arizona with his stated desire to work with Trump, a hard task given the friction between the two men. Ducey is also headed for a tough reelection battle in the fall, and is seeking a smooth replacement process.

The hymn "Amazing Grace" is to be performed by the Brophy Student Ensemble, from the college preparatory school in Phoenix attended by McCain, his wife, Cindy, and their sons, Jack and Jimmy.

Some people travelled for hours, including a group of Vietnamese-born residents of Orange County, California, who arrived on two buses and wore yellow T-shirts reading, "We salute our hero Senator John McCain". In 1987, he was elected to represent Arizona as a U.S. Senator, a role he continued to serve in until his death on August 25, 2018.

"The Senate, the United States, and the world are lesser places without John McCain", Schumer, a New York Democrat who is the minority leader in the Senate and who is Jewish, said Saturday on Twitter.

Carrasco and a friend had hoped to honor McCain's family by waving a set of three flags, including an American flag, a U.S. Navy flag and a POW-themed flag, outside the funeral home, according to The Washington Post.

During the ceremony, Gov. Doug Ducey praised McCain for his dedication to his country.

The public is invited to pay their respects while McCain lies in state.

McCain's lifelong friend and former Congressman Jim Kolbe placed a wreath by his side before Sen.

"When John McCain called on us to serve a goal greater than one's own self-interest, it wasn't a talking point created to win the next election", Ducey said.

"I'm going to make sure that the Congress keeps asking the hard questions and try to persuade President Trump, if you leave Afghanistan, it will blow up in your face, that hoping Syria gets better without a strategy won't work, and do it in a Lindsey way", he said.

He would have turned 82 years old on Wednesday.

The viewing later in the day will go on as long as people are waiting in line, said Rick Davis, McCain's former presidential campaign manager.

"Senator Hatch believes it's a worthy goal and looks forward to working with the majority leader to accomplish it", Hatch's deputy chief of staff, Matt Whitlock, said Monday afternoon. "He gave me a rapper's name", Morales said.

Former Vice President Joe Biden will pay tribute at a Thursday service at North Phoenix Baptist Church.
