‘True Detective’ Season 3 Trailer Released with Mahershala Ali

After the series finale of Sharp Objects last night, HBO dropped a few new teasers to promote their upcoming original lineup, including the first look at True Detective season 3, starring Mahershala Ali (Moonlight).

The third season of True Detective stars Academy Award victor Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), John Charles Dickson, Stephen Dorff, Carmen Ejogo, Ray Fisher and Sarah Gadon. "The things I've seen. the things I know. won't do anything but cause harm". We also get a glimpse at the season's other cast members, including Carmen Ejogo, Scoot McNairy, and Stephen Dorff. Finally, he says, "I want to know the whole story".

It's hard to make much of what we're seeing in this first look, which debuted ahead of the Sharp Objects season finale. Later, Wayne is shown looking troubled in old age and a young Amelia appears to haunt him, asking him, "Did you think you could just go on and never once have to look back?"

True Detective season 3 takes place in the heart of the Ozarks and sees a man obsessed with a crime, unlocking a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three different time periods.

Nic Pizzolatto serves as the showrunner and one of the executive producers will be the sole writer of the third season with the exception of episode four, which he co-wrote with David Milch.

In January, the anthology crime series will make its long-awaited comeback to the network, more than three years after the conclusion of its second season.
