President Trump appears to change his story about meeting

On Sunday, Trump tweeted an apparent response to stories by CNN and The Washington Post that said he is anxious about Donald Trump Jr.'s legal exposure following the infamous 2016 meeting.

Amid public uproar over the meeting, the President's son was forced to release follow-up statements, ultimately acknowledging that the meeting's true objective had been to get dirt about Mrs Hillary Clinton from a lawyer he had been told was working for the Russian government.

Trump has denied he had any prior knowledge of the meeting and repeated that claim on Sunday. At the center of the session: Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya and others with Russia connections.

Legal experts have often pointed to a possible violation of federal election laws, which ban taking anything of value - which could include information on a political opponent - from a foreign government trying to influence a USA election.

But "willfully soliciting a foreign contribution is a crime", Rick Hasen, a campaign finance expert and law professor at the University of California, Irvine, said in an email Monday.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has assigned another piece of his investigation of President Trump to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District. The Times wants to keep up its Russia-related anti-Trump drumbeat.

And he raged against the media's obsession with his links to Russian Federation and the status of Michael Cohen, his former fixer, who is under federal investigation in NY.

As a reminder, the offer came to Trump Jr.by way of Rob Goldstone, a music publicist who knew the Trumps through the Miss Universe pageant. "Anybody who says they know is just guessing".

Trump's lawyers also eventually admitted that Trump Jr. initial statement claiming the meeting had been about adoptions and nothing more had been dictated by President Trump himself from Air Force One. The statement does not mention that he was promised damaging information about Clinton. Betraying no surprise or misgivings about the offer from a hostile foreign power, Trump Jr. replied: "If it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer".

Emails released by Trump Jr also suggest the meeting was about getting negative information to use against Clinton in the campaign. His newest tweet is the closest he has come to admitting the meeting's goal was to seek dirt on Clinton from the Russians. "U.S. President Donald Trump gave his clearest admission yet on Sunday that the objective of the meeting between son Don Jr. and a Kremlin-connected lawyer before the 2016 presidential election was to get dirt on Hillary Clinton".

Sen. Rubio drew the ire of conservatives and Trump supporters in July when he said that the Federal Bureau of Investigation did nothing wrong by spying on Trump's campaign advisor, Carter Page.

Indeed, that's been the Trump team's story.

"I had bad information at that time".
