Donald Trump Hints That Cohen’s Secret Tape Was Doctored

"And the significance of that is, if the client and the lawyer discuss the commission of a crime, or discuss the commission of a fraud, there is no attorney-client privilege in that conversation". Is this a first, never heard of it before? Trump on Wednesday suggested the tape was cut just as he was "presumably saying positive things", although there was no evidence of that.

Weisselberg, on the other hand, has worked for the Trump family since the 1970s, and knows more about the Trump Organization's history and finances than almost anyone.

On the tape released Tuesday by CNN, Trump can be heard discussing with NY fixer Michael Cohen how to buy the rights to the story of a Playboy model, who claims she had an affair with Trump in 2006.

That's according to a secretly recorded tape of the conversation released amid an escalating feud between the president and his longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen. A federal investigation is underway, probing whether Trump and Cohen violated campaign finance laws and offered hush money to womenーamong them, adult film actress Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougalーwho claimed they had affairs with Trump. That was shortly after now First Lady Melania gave birth to their son, Barron.

The tape confirms that Trump knew about the payment discussion in real time, while his campaign had denied knowing anything about the topic.

In the tape, Cohen said "we'll have to pay" to purchase the rights to McDougal's story.

On the tape, Donald Trump and Michael Cohen talk about buying the rights to McDougal's story. "The good news is that your favorite President did nothing wrong!"

If Trump made the alleged payments with his own funds, and made the payments strictly for personal, not campaign reasons, he could be legally in the clear. Cohen said in an interview with ABC published in early July that his family and country would come before his loyalty to Trump, and CNN reported later that Cohen had told his friends he did not think Trump would pardon him if it came to that point.

Additionally, Trump has always been plagued by rumors that he fathered an illegitimate child and paid a former Trump Tower doorman $30,000 to keep quiet about the affair. The idea that Trump and Cohen were "concerned about a pregnancy" certainly is an alarming statement to hear about the President of the United States.

Court filings said federal prosecutors have 12 recordings from Cohen, and CNN previously confirmed the recording with Trump is among those 12.

On Wednesday (Jul 25), his newly hired, high-powered attorney Lanny Davis compared the Cohen tape to the Watergate tapes that ultimately forced Republican president Richard Nixon to resign in 1974 to avoid impeachment.

Cohen's attorney has said he released the tape after being subjected to an "intense campaign of disparagement" by the president's team.

Not long after suggesting he'd consider representing Michael Cohen (despite all of the obvious conflicts that could prevent such a thing), Michael Avenatti is demanding that Cohen show once and for all that he's serious about "doing the right thing".

Trump and Cohen have reportedly not spoken since the April FBI raid.
