Timing of Mueller’s Russia Indictment Wasn’t Trolling - Trump Requested It

Larry Hogan, also a Republican, said in a tweet that, Trump, in defending Putin from US intelligence findings that Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 presidential election, "failed to stand up for our country".

An understandable mix-up, Trump insisted, caused by his having said onstage next to Vladimir Putin that he did not see any reason why it WOULD be Russian Federation who had tampered in the USA election, when he had meant to say he did not see any reason why it "WOULDN'T be Russian Federation".

At their meeting in Helsinki on Monday, Trump failed to challenge Putin over the 2016 presidential election, seeming to accept at face value the strongman's denial that Moscow interfered in a bid to undermine Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. But he undercut his scripted assertion that he accepted Russian Federation was responsible for election interference with an ad-lib: "Could be other people also". A lot of people out there.

"He was given multiple opportunities to push back on Vladimir Putin [at the news conference] and he refused each and every one of them".

The Democratic Party's biggest financiers are reportedly pushing Warner, who is known on Capitol Hill as a moderate, to run for president in 2020.

"Just standing and selling your country downriver on foreign soil in front of your adversary - there's no precedent for such disgraceful and irrational behavior", Brinkley said. "The sentence should have been, 'I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be Russian Federation'". He may well have walked back his "clarification" about believing USA intelligence about Russian interference before this post even goes live. He just said it's not Russian Federation.

"I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but President Putin's denial was strong", Trump reiterated. Putin denies any Russian interference in the vote.

Despite the disappointment, some good news did emerge from the meeting as the leaders made a decision to improve the bilateral relationship, which is said to have deteriorated to the worst level since the end of the Cold War in the late 1980s. Why was Mueller - the man Democrats would have you believe is a longtime Republican carrying out his investigation quietly and apolitically - releasing this information just three days before Trump's meeting with Putin?

More news: So what does Putin really think of Trump?

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of NY said Americans had "never seen a president of the United States support an American adversary the way" Trump did at the conference.

Corker, who will retire at the end of this Congress and who has been a critic of the president, said on Twitter he thought the "dam is finally breaking" on congressional opposition to some of Trump's most controversial policies, including his engagement with Putin and protectionist trade policies that have fueled new trade wars with European allies and China. "And I know it's politically not necessarily correct to say that, but I'll say it and I'll say it loud".

In the Finnish capital, Trump had refused to say he believed United States intelligence agencies over Russia's denials of meddling and delivered no condemnation of Moscow's interference.

Douglas Brinkley, a presidential historian and professor at Rice University, compared Trump to "a bull carrying his own china shop around with him".

CNN's Anderson Cooper asked Hurd, who is a former CIA officer and member of the House Intelligence Committee, if he trusted Trump's ability to speak on behalf of USA interests.

"We understand the Russian threat", McConnell said, assuring them it is "the widespread view here in the U.S. Senate among members of both parties".

But by Tuesday morning, it was clear Trump could not rely on support from even his most die-hard allies.

"I realize there is a need for some clarification", he said.
