Trump on Democrats calling to abolish ICE: "I love that issue"

President Donald Trump took to Twitter Saturday morning to attack Democrats over increased calls among the left ranks of the party for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency to be eliminated.

Across the nation, ICE has never seemed more visible as anger continues over the separation of families under the Trump administration's "zero-tolerance" policy.

But Hemanth Gundavaram, co-director of the Immigrant Justice Clinic at Northeastern University in Boston, said ICE has been diverted from its stated mission, used as a tool by President Donald Trump to implement his "racist and xenophobic" immigration policy.

Gillibrand told CNN on Thursday that ICE "has become a deportation force". Meanwhile, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's stance that ICE should be abolished has gained prominence since her longshot victory in Tuesday's Democratic congressional primary over U.S. Rep. Joe Crowley in NY.

In New York, far-left primary challenger and ICE opponent Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's shocked the party's establishment by beating Rep. Joseph Crowley, D-N.Y. "Because they're going to get beaten so badly".

Though seasoned anti-Trump demonstrators packed the rallies, others were new to activism, including parents who said they felt compelled to act after heart-wrenching accounts of families who were torn apart.

ICE spokeswoman Liz Johnson condemned calls to abolish the agency as "dangerously misguided" in a statement Friday. "These radical protesters want ANARCHY - but the only response they will find from our government is LAW AND ORDER!"

The protests attracted immigration activists as well as other first-time marchers who were drawn to respond to what they see as an immigration crisis on the southern border. "You are doing a fantastic job of keeping us safe by eradicating the worst criminal elements", he said. "No family jails", said another.
