LeBron James compares Warriors to Patriots after Game 3 of NBA Finals

LeBron James #23 of the Cleveland Cavaliers stands on the court during their game against the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center on January 13, 2017 in Sacramento, California. They won a title together over the Warriors in 2016, but that was before Golden State landed Durant.

"It's definitely a tough loss and we had our chances", James said. "I'm not surprised. I mean, no matter who wins this series, no one wants the invite anyway".

It gave Golden State a 110-102 victory that creates the same 3-0 hole for the Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, but Durant insists that this is a different game, different season and different vibe. Durant scored 24 points in the first half on 7-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range. He also wanted his team to be more physical than they were in the two games played on Golden State's floor to start the series.

Game 4 is Friday night. He knew 50 seconds still remained and his shot put the Warriors up by six points.

Having similarly delivered at this stage past year, Durant has spent the last 12 months dodging questions about whether he will ever top his 2017 display, and he now plans to do the same when asked to analyse his latest performance. But Durant picked up the slack and dropped 43 points.

All of these events were downright ideal for the Cleveland Cavaliers: Stephen Curry's shooting game was very bad for most of the night, Klay Thompson's wasn't much better, the Cavs led by as many as 13 in the first half and some non-producers from the first two games of these NBA Finals were starting to finally give LeBron James the contributions he's craved. "He's an assassin, and that was one of those assassin plays".

The Cavs led 14-4 with 7:57 left in the first quarter, a complete flip from Game 2 when the Warriors jumped to a 15-6 lead with 8:12 left in the first quarter.

Durant finished Game 3 with the third-highest point total by a Warriors player in a Finals game, behind 55- and 44-point games by Rick Barry, both in 1967.

LeBron James may be the Tom Brady of the National Basketball Association, but according to the Cavaliers superstar, it's his opposition that most resembles Brady's juggernaut New England Patriots.

"Kevin was the story in the first half, just keeping us in it", Warriors coach Steve Kerr said.
