The Daily Express says that the teenager has completed his medical and agreed personal terms, and an official announcement will be made in the next 48 hours with United "ready to pay nearly £20m" for his services.

Fred, who is part of Brazil's World Cup squad, is set to become United chief coach Jose Mourinho's first signing of the summer. Still only 19, the right-back only made his Porto debut in February but he's done enough in the months since to convince Mourinho he has a bright future at United.

It appears Jose Mourinho has got his man and Fred will be a ideal player alongside Nemanja Matic in the heart of United's midfield but where this leaves the likes of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and others remains to be seen.

United are in need of midfield reinforcements with Michael Carrick retiring and Marouane Fellaini out of contract.

A 2013 arrival from Brazil's Internacional, Fred helped Ukrainian giants Shakhtar to three league titles, while amassing 155 appearances and 15 goals.

Fred is really excited to join the Mancunian club after having being Jose Mourinho's prime target for quite a while.

United released the following statement on agreeing a deal for Fred.

"He is excited to start but now is the time to think about the World Cup".

Handed his debut by Dunga in 2014, Fred's worldwide career was disrupted after testing positive for the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide during the 2015 Copa America.

"Players are always thinking of their careers".

"He is a wonderful player", the Brazilian legend said.

"If I was a club manager, I would be looking to sign him".
