Syrian President Bashar Assad said he plans to visit North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, North Korean state media reported on Sunday, potentially the first meeting between Kim and another head of state in Pyongyang.

The U.S. delegation to the preparatory talks for the summit have stayed at the hotel.

According to South Korea's foreign ministry, North Korea established diplomatic relations with Syria in 1966, opening its embassy in Damascus.

The Syrian President reportedly made the remarks as he received his credentials for the visit from North Korean Ambassador Mun Jong-nam on May 30.

Madden said any similar attempt to wrest power during the North Korean leader's absence was unlikely, pointing to Kim's previous trips to Beijing and Dalian in China, which went off without a hitch.

Trump met with former North Korean spy chief Kim Yong Chol for about 90 minutes Friday - the highest-level North Korean official to visit the United States in 18 years.

Kim Su Gil, chairman of the Pyongyang chapter of the Workers' Party replaced Kim Jong Gak, director of the Korean People Army's General Political Bureau.

The Yonhap report did not address the current health and happiness levels of the three top leaders who were displaced.

"It is a cost that we're willing to bear to play a small part in this historic meeting", Ng said without elaboration, according to Reuters.

Trump aims to persuade the North Korean dictator to give up his country's nuclear arsenal in exchange for relief from US economic sanctions.

Experts have voiced concern that despite Trump's claim to be the world's greatest dealmaker, he knows little about North Korea, arms control or global diplomacy.

Other replaced officials include Pak Yong Sik and Ri Myong Su.

USA officials believe there was some dissension in the military about Kim's approaches to South Korea and the United States.

The US-North Korea summit will take place in Singapore on 12 June.

They added that the GPB could be influential enough to resist leadership policy decisions and try to profit from future South Korean economic aid.
