After Williams beat Kristya Pliskova at the French open at Stade Roland Garros, Paris on Tuesday, she spoke about the meaning behind her black bodysuit.

Williams came from behind to emerge victorious 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a battle against 17th seed Ashleigh Barty to secure a third round meeting against 11th seed Julia Goerges.

The temperature hit 25C in Paris but it did not seem to affect the 23-time major victor in her first Grand Slam match since giving birth last September. "They just weren't going in", said Williams after the match.

Williams said the catsuit was crucial for her health and well-being, claiming it prevented the return of blood clots which left her life in danger after she gave birth to daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian in September past year.

"It's not a typical outfit".
