Dunkin' Donuts is offering a free donut with a purchase of any beverage, according to their twitter. Krispy Kreme is also offering a free doughnut to all customers, with no additional purchases necessary.

Atlanta's own boutique doughnut shop located in Brookhaven, Bon Glaze, will also be offering a free sugary confection with any purchase. At The Dough Nut in Bend, they say on their Facebook page that they sell out quickly on National Donut Day-so get there extra early if you're looking to indulge.

The pizza delivery chain will debut its caramel creme-filled doughnut holes, with a free order alongside any pizza order.

The very first official National Doughnut Day was held by the Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938 to raise money for the group during the Great Depression. No purchase necessary. This is available only at participating shops across the US and Canada. Participating locations can be found on their website.

Cake donuts: Rather old school and often coming with fewer accoutrements-unless you're Voodoo Donuts, of course. Walmart has free doughnuts for all customers too. Fractured Prune customers at participating locations will receive a free OC Sand doughnut.

The "holiday" is set for Friday (we can call it a holiday, right?) and we bet you're wondering where you can snag a free or discounted doughnut.

Duck Donuts, which has a Lehigh Valley location at Tilghman Square in South Whitehall Township, will offer one free classic donut Friday, including bare, cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar. Their donut-shaped Granny Smith apple slices are covered in chocolate and a variety of toppings. From Saturday to Wednesday, any size or combo is buy-one-get-one free.

And even Burger King is attempting to get in on the fun by selling a "Whopper Donut" at five locations (New York, L.A, Miami, Boston and Salt Lake City) today only. The shop is hosting a celebration from 7 a.m.to 8:30 a.m. The retail giant expects to give away 1.2 million whole glazed doughnuts Friday.
