He said that there are some Islamic countries that prefer to use telescopes to sight the Moon while other countries will only call Ramadan if the new Moon is spotted with the naked eye.

The same was the case with the other gulf states, as UAE had not sighted the moon either.

The Islamic holy month of Ramazan will begin on Thursday in Canada, USA, Europe and the Middle East.

The beginning and end of Islamic months are determined by the sighting of the new moon.

If the crescent can not be seen, then the following day remains Ramadan and Eid will, by default, begin the day after that.

According to an official statement presented by Saudi Arabia, the country will start the Ramadan fast on Thursday, May 17, as the crescent moon was not observable on Tuesday. This year however it is most likely that the Ramzan Chand will be sighted today evening.

During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from drinking and eating from dawn until dusk.

The money would also reportedly cover the conduct of Tafsir during the Ramadan months. The month long observance which will begin from either May 15 or May 16 will see the Muslims observing fasting from sunrise to sunset, Reciting Quran, attending their prayer sessions and much more. It is followed by the Eid al-Fitr festival.

For some days, the search for Ramadan date this year has been on the rise on the internet.

The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) board of directors, staff and volunteers extend their greetings to all Muslims on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The date is also recognised as one of the Five Pillars of Islam, alongside faith, prayer, charity, and making a pilgrimage to the Holy City of Mecca.
