PWD Scam: AAP terms arrest of Kejriwal's nephew 'BJP's vendetta politics'

Trouble seems to be mounting for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arresting his relative on Thursday in connection with a Public Works Department (PWD) scam. Vinay was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody for a day.

During questioning, he was evasive and had claimed that he was not an active partner in Renu Constructions, they said.

"For the Centre and the Lt Governor in the last three years, Delhi Police and ACB only exist to harass and trouble AAP leaders, ministers, their relatives and even their children". "After having failed to find anything against Arvind Kejriwal, his MLAs and his ministers, Modi government stoops low to target Kejriwal's relatives", the party said in a statement. "The CPWD in their probe found lapses in their project and also in their materials", said a news report in The Indian Express.

The FIRs do not mention Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Kejriwal's name, although complainant Rahul Sharma, Convener of NGO Road Anti-Corruption Organisation, has accused the Chief Minister of helping Bansal to get fake bills of around Rs 10 crore cleared.

"The ACB registered an FIR on May 8, 2017 after a complaint that Surender Bansal got a tender below 46 per cent on behalf of company Renu Construction, on the estimated cost of Rs 4.9 lakh", Deep said.

Informed sources told IANS that Bansal fainted in the court room, but a senior police officer said that he "feigned illness" and was later taken to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital for a check-up.

"After the complaint, the ACB also did a separate inquiry by Sri Ram Labs which also said the work was satisfactory", Sisodia said.

According to sources in the anti-graft body, the accused, identified as Vinay Bansal, was placed under arrest for his involvement in the scam relating to the construction of drains by the Public Works Department (PWD). The current case is on a contract he won before the AAP government came to power, he added.

"Contractors are asked to submit bills of the material used to ensure their quality". These two are the most reputed labs in the country. "Where is the scam?"
