United strike £80m deal for first summer signing

With those sets of contrary reports having flown by, Manchester Evening News have now claimed that the Red Devils have indeed taken initial steps towards reaching an agreement over the 23-year-old's mega transfer.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly agreed a stunning £80 million summer transfer deal to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

However, that is said to be premature in Milinkovic-Savic's case, though the club remain interested in him.

Interestingly, the player is represented by former Chelsea star Mateja Kezman, who was one of Mourinho's first signings upon his arrival in England in 2004.

Milinkovic-Savic has made 30 starts and two substitute appearances for Lazio this season, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

United will be in the looking for a new central midfielder this summer with Michael Carrick retiring, and the futures of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini uncertain.

However, a report in The Sun this morning claims that United have struck a deal to sign Milinkovic-Savic this summer.

Milinkovic-Savic, who has had three excellent seasons in Serie A after arriving from Belgian side Genk, has also been linked with Real Madrid but Mourinho is hoping to use his relationship with Kezman to get the deal over the line.
